This restaurant has become one of my favorites. You have to visit it. The food is exquisite, but the most beautiful thing is its employees that make us feel special. An excellent service

B and I are finalizing our plans for a trip to Guatemala. The other day, I looked up Guatemalan food in Google Maps. There were a number of options that came up. Using a combination of reading the reviews and eenie-meenie-miney-mo, we settled on making a trip to Kent to try out La Estancia Comida Guatemala. We had fun on the car trip down practicing Spanish and smooching at the stop lights. At the end of the pleasant trip, we pulled into a strip mall with plenty of easy to get into parking. The colorful sign made it clear where we were supposed to go. The door was next to a noisy barbacoa window with banners bragging about all the odd kinds of meat they had on the grill. The restaurant was clean and spacious. A sign in Spanish and English told us that we had to order at the counter. The girl at the counter was very polite about trying to understand our Spanish. She explained all the dishes while we struggled to decide. The dishes are familiar to anyone who has tried more than tacos and burritos at other Latin restaurants. I was excited to try their Tamalitos Elotes (Little corn tamales). For the main course, B went for the chicken soup and I got churrasco chapin. We paid up and looked for a table. There were plenty of choices in the spacious dining area. The tamalitos came out first. I may not fully understand the -ito ending, these were as big as any tamales I've ever had. They are slightly sweet and reminiscent of corn bread. When the rest of the food came out, we regretted that we had ordered two full meals. Either one would have easily fed us both. Everything was full of flavor and very satisfying. The black beans were cooked in rich broth. I've never tasted better. The chicken soup was full of chicken and vegetables. Guatemalan tortillas are thick and flavorful. B was not so fond of the rice, but I liked it. We tried everything, but we did not finish anything. The waitress kindly provided us with boxes for the leftovers. We only tried two dishes on the big menu, so we will be back.

I got the shuco mixto on tortillas instead of the bun and an horchata. The shuco was VERY delicious and the horchata seemed better quality than other places I've been. Had a texture reminiscent of a protein shake and I loved that. My roommate and I will certainly return.
